Our 2023 Annual Report documents a year of intense activity, resilience, and growth for the A.D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Protection Centre.
In a year marked by significant regional challenges, the Sakharov Centre remained a steadfast advocate for the displaced, the marginalized, and the next generation of Armenian leaders.
2023: By the Numbers
Our impact across our Yerevan headquarters and regional branches (Gyumri, Gavar, and Goris) was driven by data and dedication:
- Legal Protection & Human Rights: We provided free legal aid and consultations to 3,124 beneficiaries across our Yerevan and regional offices, with a dedicated focus on restoring the rights of those affected by conflict and forced displacement.
- Civil Society & Research: We successfully trained 642 participants through the Civil Society School (CSS).
- Research & Monitoring: We published 8 major analytical reports, covering everything from education access in remote Shirak to the perception of CSOs in Syunik.
The “Bridge” Between People and State
The 2023 report highlights our unique role as a “resource center” for the community. We didn’t just provide services; we empowered citizens to advocate for themselves through:
- Sub-grants for Local Initiatives: Supporting grassroots NGOs to tackle local problems.
- Expert Advocacy: Submitting formal opinions to the National Assembly and various Ministries on draft laws affecting human rights.
- Public Awareness: Maintaining a robust press review and information portal to keep the public informed of their legal rights.
Transparency and Governance
In line with our commitment to transparency, the 2023 report includes our full list of partners, as well as the results of our independent financial audit by “G. Sahakyan and Partners” LLC.
Looking Ahead
The lessons learned in 2023 laid the groundwork for our current 2024 successes. We invite all our stakeholders to review our journey as we continue to build a democratic Armenia based on the rule of law.
