The placemaking project ‘Open-Air Cinema Pavilion’ was successfully implemented in Khot village of the Tatev community in the Syunik region by ‘The A.D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Protection Centre’ NGO with the financial support of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) and the active involvement and participation of the community’s youth and the municipality, within the framework of the ‘Involving Youth in Local Governance in Armenia’.
The objective of the initiative is to provide a multifunctional educational and cultural public space for community residents, particularly youth. During implementation, the pavilion was built and fully prepared in line with the project design solutions. It has been installed at the designated site and is ready for use.
As part of the project, essential furniture and technical equipment were procured, including a projector, projector screen, beanbags for comfortable seating, and curtains. The acquired equipment and furniture will be installed in the pavilion, ensuring its full functionality for film screenings as well as educational, cultural, and community events.
In parallel, the Tatev municipality has undertaken responsibility for concreting the pavilion floor, which will guarantee safe, comfortable, and long‑term use of the space regardless of weather conditions. This contribution represents the municipality’s investment in the sustainability of the project and the proper operation of the infrastructure.
The newly established facility enables the organization of outdoor film screenings, trainings, seminars, community discussions, youth gatherings, and other public events. The pavilion has already emerged as a new educational and cultural platform for the community, fostering active civic participation, the development of non‑formal education, and the revitalization of cultural life.
The project was made possible through effective cooperation among the community, project partners, and beneficiaries. The pavilion is intended for long-term use, ensuring the sustainability of results and continued impact on community development.
Overall, the project objectives have been successfully achieved: a modern, multifunctional, and accessible open-air cinema pavilion has been created for all residents. The only remaining task is the concreting of the floor by the municipality, which will finalize the improvement of the infrastructure and secure its safe and full operation in the long term.
