Sakharov Centre Organised Youth Placemaking Camp in Tsaghkadzor

“The A. D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Protection Centre” NGO, within the framework of the UNDEF-funded project “Youth Engagement in Local Self-Government in Armenia,” organized a five-day educational and practical camp titled “Placemaking Projects in the 6 Beneficiary Communities of the Program,” held in Tsaghkadzor from January 17 to 21, 2026. The camp brought together representatives of youth active groups from the communities of Amasia and Ashotsk in Shirak Region, Gavar and Vardenis in Gegharkunik Region, and Tatev and Goris in Syunik Region.

The aim of the camp was to enhance young people’s capacities in placemaking, community development, and participation in local self-government processes. During the camp, participants were introduced to the fundamental principles of placemaking, the stages of project-based design, methods for assessing community needs, as well as tools for participatory governance and advocacy.

The training sessions were complemented by practical and team-based work and group discussions. At the end of the camp, the participants developed placemaking ideas tailored to their respective communities, with the goal of increasing community attractiveness and promoting active civic participation.
