On June 29, a town-hall public discussion titled “The Current State of Public Transport in Amasia Community and Ways for Improvement” was held in the hall of the Amasia Municipality.
The discussion brought together representatives from state and local government bodies, NGOs, and local residents. Attendees emphasized that the lack of public transport, particularly in border villages, poses a severe challenge. It severely restricts people’s mobility, limits access to jobs and essential services, and contributes to emigration.
According to the residents, commuting from certain villages is only possible via rare or expensive taxis, which further hinders labor and educational mobility.
During the meeting, several solutions were proposed, including the introduction of a community-operated transport system, the procurement of buses through subvention programs, the organization of flexible/rotational routes, and travel privileges for social groups.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was announced that all recommendations would be compiled into an official report and forwarded to the Shirak Regional Administration (Marzpetaran) for further consideration.
The meeting was organized by the Shirak Regional Branch of “The A.D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Protection Centre” NGO within the framework of the UDF-23-988-ARM grant project.
